See What Our Guests Have to Say

“We all enjoyed our trip to North Platte Outpost earlier this month. Too bad everyone wasn’t able to join us. The great staff did a wonderful job. I forgot to mention Lisco, one fine dog! I made a DVD of our trip and thought you and the staff might enjoy seeing it. We loved the two blinds over on the river! This was our fifth year and we’ve loved each. The North Platte River in late season is like a huge magnet for green heads. One can easily shoot more ducks here in three days than most places in a whole season! There were hundreds of mallards and geese in the sky at all times; it’s a truly beautiful sight. Thanks for the great hunt and hospitality.” — Mike Sherry, Wisconsin

“Just a follow up to our hunt. I have hunted across North America and all kinds of game, birds and varmints with several different outfitters, and this hunt was nothing short of Fantastic!!!! We had a great guide who put in every effort to ensure we had a great time and saw tons of game!!! The food was great as well. Take care and thank you again for a wonderful experience!!!” — Jason Dyck, Canada

“I have gone on some really great duck hunts elsewhere that don’t last for any length of time. At North Platte Outpost, the way these ducks and geese leave the river and then move back in after they have fed is truly great. As we limited out on green heads every day, there was approximately three hours of constant action throughout the entire time. This allowed one to be truly choosy about what was shot. (My hunting partner smokes a pipe and he never managed to finish his pipe the entire time!)

Throughout the time we were there we finally quit at just shy of our possession limit of Canada geese due to our 128 Igloo cooler being leveled off with waterfowl. Everyone at North Platte Outpost is very enthusiastic about hunting, the accommodations are above good, toward excellent, the chef makes truly wonderful food and arranges for almost anything a hunter would like to eat.

The guide’s knowledge of the area was quite good and hunting abilities were excellent. I have been calling waterfowl in excess of 40 years, but the second time I heard Ross call both ducks and geese, I quietly put my call back in my pocket. The Labradors themselves were experts at working the current in the North Platte River and showed themselves to be very good.

I very definitely recommend this to anybody who is a dedicated waterfowl hunter. I don’t know of any place where you can consistently take a limit of mallards and Canada geese, be warm and comfortable, even though the outside temperature might be 10 degrees, and see calling and great dog work with a number of your friends.” — Thayer Rivers, South Carolina

“Jim—Sonny and I really enjoyed hunting with you guys at the North Platte Outpost! I have been to Texas and New Zealand hunting trophy big game, but I can honestly say the time I spent there was some of the most fun I have ever had hunting. I still want that sweet potato recipe!! Thanks for having us out and look for us on ‘Kristy Lee Cook Going Country’. Hope you enjoyed the pictures we sent, and I can’t wait to get my mount up on the wall. I still wish I hadn’t missed that big Buck!” Thanks.” — Kristy Lee and Sonny Cook

“Cheyenne Ridge has really become a special place for me because of the great times I have been able to share w/ my Dad, brothers, and friends. I have hunted all 4 flyways in North America and been told by outfitters, old timers, and experts that you cannot guarantee limits on ducks in the U.S., particularly late in the season. Cheyenne Ridge is the exception to this rule, even in the late season, which is my absolute favorite time to duck and goose hunt. The North Platte River has incredible concentrations of waterfowl and Cheyenne Ridge has rights to the best land and offers excellent options. Crisp winter weather, snow on the ground, a heated pit, fantastic dogs, and fully plumed ducks and geese diving into the decoys all day long...no place I would rather be.

Additionally, the guides do a fantastic job of allowing the hunter to take ownership of the hunt. They advise and recommend, but really want your feedback and input on the birds you want to kill and the type of shots you want to take. They are also great about hunters calling, no matter the skill or the experience. At Cheyenne Ridge, it is truly your hunt.” — Born, Robert MAJ U.S. Army

“I researched South Dakota outfitters and couldn't have found a better run operation. Cheyenne Ridge came out on top. The food was outstanding and there was 3rd and 4th helpings if you wanted to eat that much. The guides were all very experienced with most having several years of experience guiding in the area. The camp is very well run. All employees do their share of work and everyone was always happy and in a good mood. This made camp life enjoyable.

I only saw numerous mule deer and whitetail. One just happened to be a very nice 5 x 5 whitetail. I missed him on the second morning. Being as I was hunting with smoke pole we were selective on our shot opportunities. Two out of three hunters were successful, with one getting a very large 6 x 5 muley. The second got a nice 5 x 5. Several nice 5 x 5 were sighted.

Most everyday the hunters were either into deer or seeing deer. We stopped counting how many deer we saw after the second day because it was becoming a pain to keep track of all of them. This was a ranch house hunt and very comfortable camp. Stop looking and call Cheyenne Ridge!” — Charles Medici, New York City, NY

“What a great time we had on our recent hunt. The whole North Platte Outpost experience was a wonderful vehicle for camaraderie, fun and great hunting. While I particularly enjoyed the professional dog work and goose calling, my sons were delighted with the home-cooked meals, breakfast in the blind, and the overflowing cookie jar. Your attention to service, your respect for the hunt, and the quality of your people made it a remarkable experience and a lasting memory for a dad and his two sons.” — Gene Duncan, Stillwater, Minnesota

“Our group has hunted at Cheyenne Ridge for five years now and the whole operation gets better every year. We had been hunting a well-known lodge in Arkansas for the previous four years and were looking for a change. In Arkansas, it was too much gang shooting and a race to get a limit, and if you didn't limit, you’re done at ten a.m. anyways. Besides being more relaxed, Cheyenne Ridge has less hunting pressure and has had more consistent and better hunting than we saw in Arkansas.

The lodge and food at Cheyenne Ridge are worth the trip alone. The guides are fun to hunt with and willing to do what it takes to get birds. The new pits this year (2009) were really nice. They are well placed with good visibility out for a pit and stay nice and warm. I also make a few trips a season with family to Oshkosh, Nebraska, a well-known goose hunting area. From what I've seen and what friends in the area are saying is true, Scottsbluff now has more geese than they do in "The goose hunting capital of Nebraska." If you like green heads, geese, an awesome lodge, and wanna gain five pounds, check out Cheyenne Ridge.” — Dr. Paul Sherry, Steamboat, Colorado
